How do you keep a social life when your Friday is everyone else's Tuesday?

Asked by Elena V. - 7/23/2026

Two years on night audit and the loneliest part isn't the shift, it's the calendar. My days off never line up with friends, family dinners are when I'm sleeping, and 'let's grab drinks' means 8pm when I'm clocking in. I've started scheduling one intentional daytime thing per week and protecting it like a shift. What do you all do to stay connected to people who live on the day schedule?

Breakfast is my social hour — right after my shift is everyone else's morning. Post-work eggs with a day-walker friend beats trying to force an evening I'll sleep through.

Protecting one daytime thing like a shift is exactly it. I do Sunday afternoons with family, non-negotiable, and everyone knows not to schedule me out of it.
