Security Workers
Nine years of graveyard patrols: my stay alert and stay safe checklist
For the security owls, especially new ones working a post solo overnight: 1. Vary your patrol times. Predictable rounds are the first thing anyone watching you learns. 2. Radio/phone check-ins on a schedule so someone notices if you go quiet. 3. Know your exits and your nearest camera blind spots before you need them. 4. Fatigue is a safety issue, not a toughness test. Micro-breaks with movement beat pushing through. 5. Document everything, timestamped. Your log is your protection. Stay sharp out there.
As the person who sometimes shows up when a check-in gets missed — please do #2. It has literally saved lives.
Saving this. Just started solo overnights at a retail lot and #1 never occurred to me.
